Eurostars-funded project

CoreMedic and LifeTec Group have successfully teamed up in an innovative Eurostars-funded project, aimed at advancing medical training and device development. Through this collaboration, CoreMedic was able to elevate its device from TRL level 5 to TRL 7, with several first-in-human implantations already performed during the course of the project.

A key aspect of this project was the iterative approach, which proved invaluable. CoreMedic created several prototypes, which were tested on our simulator, and then returned to the drawing board based on the results. These iterations made the design process highly efficient, once again demonstrating the synergy between the two companies.

CTO Thomas Bauer from CoreMedic shared this testimonial on our collaboration: "This Eurostars collaboration with LifeTec Group has been instrumental in accelerating CoreMedic's device and procedure development. The iterative prototyping and testing, enabled by their facilities and expertise, allowed us to rapidly refine our device and procedure. The addition of in-house fluoroscopy, and improved ultrasound imaging, alongside valuable physician feedback, have significantly strengthened our development and training platform. The training at LifeTec Group, the day before our first-in-human procedure with the Spanish team, was incredibly valuable and served as an excellent preparation for the procedure itself. This partnership demonstrates the power of collaborative innovation in advancing medical training."

Examples of CBS improvements

An example of a few items that we worked on during the course of the Eurostars-funded project:

  • An inhouse fluoroscopy facility is now added to our offering, of which CoreMedic already made use of.
  • Significant time was invested in enhancing the hardware and software to make the system more robust, portable, and adaptable for onsite training.
  • A clever way was developed to improve ultrasound imaging in the proper FOV, by creating a module to have more flexible acoustic coupling to the heart with the TEE transducer.

Another valuable part of this partnership is that the feedback gathered from the physicians who evaluated and trained with the device was valuable to both companies and their developments.
