The answer is yes, at least a study using the BioLiver platform, comparing the functionality and viability of three different sourced pig livers (electrically stunned, CO2 stunned, and laboratory pigs). Most importantly, livers sourced in the slaughterhouse from electrically stunned pigs showed equal performance to the laboratory pig livers.
These results indicate that slaughterhouse material, when sourced correctly, may provide an alternative to livers obtained from laboratory pigs, which consistent with the principle of the 3R (replacement, reduction, and refinement).
