About Renate

Renate Boekhoven is a biomedical engineering professional with over 15 years of experience in translational research and medical device development. She has a background in biomechanics, ultrasound applications, ex vivo perfusion, system test engineering, and medical device certification.

During Renate's masters, she completed an internal internship at the TU/e Cellab where she studied the role of hypoxia on endothelial cell growth. She also completed an external internship at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. After graduation, she was asked by Frank van de Vosse if she wanted to pursue a PhD at Eindhoven University of Technology. She decided to take the opportunity and studied cardiovascular biomechanics with imaging, where she worked on the development of an ex vivo experimental platform for imaging plaque from patients for better patient selection for carotid surgery.

After completing her PhD, Renate started working at Philips through Bright Society, where she mainly focused on ultrasound technology. With the venture team, she developed needle tip tracking technology for regional anesthesia, going through the entire product-to-market cycle, including post-market surveillance. Ultimately she applied for the R&D Manager position at LifeTec Group.  Renate already knew LifeTec from her PhD days, as the company was in the same building as where she worked.
